Way back in the very end of November 2009, a friend proposed the idea of making a game, an RTS on the Spring RTS engine.  I thought he was kind of crazy, but I was intrigued so I told him if he could get one unit to actually show up in the engine, and move around and shoot, I'd get on board.  I was currently working on a rather ambitious mod for the hack n' slash game Titan Quest.  Sure enough, a few weeks later he had a little flying saucer that flew around the game.  It did not shoot, but it was good enough for me.

I soon began to lay plans out for my faction--we decided we'd each design our own faction--and from there some doodles and notes on a notebook page blossomed into a full-scale RTS and a notebook filled with scribbles and to do lists.  Surviving through a few bouts of developer inactivity, the game is still being actively developed today.  The friend who was a vital part of the game's growth is no longer part of the project, but I realized the game was something I was truly passionate about, so I am continuing work on it, to realize one of the few creative mediums to actually hold my interest.

If I had to describe the game, I would say it is a game which wishes to uphold certain traditions or norms in the RTS genre.  Conflict Terra was the first major project on the Spring RTS engine to feature the classic collect-and-gather resource system, the kind found in classic RTS such as Starcraft and Age of Empires.  Yet the game also pushes limitations that players have been bound by in most RTS; a huge emphasis in the game is mobility, with the two current factions being able to very easily move its entire base to another part of the map.  Our resource distribution system also relies heavily on random locations, promising no two games to be exactly alike.

As far as the setting of Conflict Terra, it takes place in a not-so-distant future, and centers on the bickering of nations in times of crisis, even when cataclysm has all of humanity in its grip.  Most people regard mechs or "giant robots" as being absurd and purely a thing of fantasy, but Conflict Terra strives to place its mech in a realistic light.  You won't find giant laser swords or nimble gyroscopic acrobats in Conflict Terra.  Tanks, aircraft, and battleships still have an important role in the world of Conflict Terra.
